A TRIBUTE TO CACALA

RESIDENTIAL  |  Remuera . Auckland

The project brief was to honour a modernist home designed by Vlad Cacala. Built 43 years ago the house is an apparently simple design but remarkable for the intelligence, generosity and boldness of the spaces.

Owned by one family until 2013, many of the original features remained. The existing internal finishes were re-invented to ensure that the clients vision of 'Cacala updated' was delivered.

Cacala often incorporated a unique art feature into each of his houses. In this house that unique art feature was the glass sculpture wall. Amongst many details Tom Dixon glass door pull handles were chosen specifically to honour the Cacala glass wall sculpture glass. Tributes to the new, include led lights in the Gessi taps which change from cold blue through to red.
